::Wonderland
Painting + Mixed Media Installation
Artists: Clementine Chan, Joe Lui, Seeman Ho
The exhibition features three Hong Kong female artists, each one expressing her world of imagination and sensation with her own unique style and technique. Joe Lui spins her creativity into a series of micro sculptures that interweave structural beauty with a delicate sensibility, in a balance of simplicity and sophistication. Clementine Chan uses storybook imagery and colour to create narratives that are dreamy, mysterious and filled with solitude and contemplation, offering a journey of meditation and imagination. Seeman Ho¡¦s vibrantly coloured mixed media installation Eat With A Vacuum, tells a fantastic story of a modern day Alice-in-Wonderland.
From oil painting and micro sculpture to mixed media installation, Wonderland invites audiences to enter the poetic and imaginary world of Joe Lui, Clementine Chan, and Seeman Ho. |

:: Inside Looking Out
opening reception: 8 Aug 2008, 6:00pm
Artists include:
Ma Chihang (Film, Mixed-media)
Kwan Sheungchi (Installation)
Lee Kit (Painting, Installation)
Chow Chunfai (Painting)
Pak Sheungchuen (Mixed-Media)
Lam Tungpang (Painting, Mixed-media)
The exhibition Inside Looking Out consists of work by six artists from studio Mr 221 and studio 615 at Fotan. It presents an opportunity to explore whether there is any solid theoretical and methodological basis for an examination of the construct that may come to be called the ¡§Fotan School¡¨. As the art world becomes more and more fragmented, the identification of artists as a member of a particular group or ¡§school¡¨ is for many the only way of lending structure to a highly fluid range of contemporary art movements. |

:: Women¡¦s Work
Artists include: Cai Jin, Cheang Shulea, Chen Xiaodan, Doris Wong Waiyin, Eva Chan, Geng Xue, Ivy Ma, Jaffa Lam Laam, Lam Waikit, Sara Tse, Siy Takyin, Sun Guojuan, Suzy Cheung Kaisun and Tan Yukking
Women's Work showcases 14 female artists from Hong Kong, China and Taiwan who bring a particular female sensibility to their work without necessarily essentialising either a male or female nature. Their work addresses a broad range of issues and employs a variety of attitudes, media and forms. The artists are all women working for what women want. Their ability to do so and in the ways that they choose is a part of the Feminist Movement¡¦s legacy. Their work may be seen as referring to the sisterhoods¡¦ concerns without necessarily making them explicit, or post-feminist or not feminist at all. Feminism gave them the ability to put their ideas to work. |

:: Performance in Waiting
Xu Xiaoguo Solo Exhibition
Xu Xiaoguo's work is based in part on his childhood memories of Chinese Opera that despite being presented in rustic settings and in temporary theaters was dazzling in its depictions of stories that were all so much larger than life. In Xu Xiaoguo: Performance in Waiting the artist presents extravagant theatrical scenes as a metaphor for life with all of its riddles and enigmas played out on the stage. His painting is not simply a recreation of the stage where a performance is presented but is a visual reflection on the notion of the theatrical stage.
